  • What types of metal cutting are there?
  • How is cold cutting of metal carried out?
  • What are the advantages of thermal metal cutting
  • How to choose the right type of metal cutting

Metal cutting is one of the main technological processes of metalworking. It is used when it is necessary to divide sheet or varietal workpieces into several parts. In modern production, high-precision and economical types of metal cutting are used, which make it possible to quickly obtain products of the required configuration with minimal loss of material.

Metal cutting according to customer dimensions

The vast majority of customers do not need blanks of unknown size, but metal cut to size. “Aerobatics” in metal cutting services is considered to be the production of original parts according to an individual project, which is always based on a drawing. The customer can complete it on his own or entrust the development to third-party specialists. If you want to order metal cutting, but have doubts about the result, our designers can get involved in the work. In this case, accurate metal cutting is guaranteed.

Innovative technologies for cutting metal products

All the methods mentioned above are actively used in production and at home. However, today more modern technologies are being created, such as installations for cutting metal using electromagnetic pulses, ultrasound, etc. It is likely that in the near future they will become as widespread as traditional methods. We are talking about the following types of cutting:

Laser in a stream of water.

This method and the patent for it belong to. This method involves focusing a solid-state laser beam into a 0.1 mm thick jet of water under high pressure. In other words, the approach combines laser and water cutting, and the cutting power is immediately set by the energy of the laser beam and a high-pressure water jet. At the point of contact of the beam with the metal, maximum heat generation is observed. As a result, the workpiece does not heat up and a high quality cut edge is achieved.

The method allows the formation of deep blind holes of very small diameters, measured in fractions of a millimeter. Other currently existing methods for cutting metal products do not allow performing such tasks.

Ultrasound.

Ultrasonic vibration is a mechanical vibration with a frequency of 16,418 kHz–2,000 MHz. A magnetostrictive or piezoelectric emitter is used as an ultrasound source - it converts high-frequency electricity into mechanical vibrations.

This technology is suitable for cutting hard and brittle materials and allows the production of products with complex profiles. And its principle is to copy the shape of the instrument. Thanks to this approach, machining by cutting is improved, flaw detection, cleaning, soldering and other operations are performed.

Due to ultrasonic testing installations when cutting threads, the cutting torque is reduced by eight times, easier chip removal is ensured, and frictional resistance in the tool grooves is reduced. This increases the accuracy of matching the tool profile and the thread.

Exothermic.

This method has been known for a long time, but still remains unusual, as it makes it possible to cut metal products under water at a depth of up to 100 meters. Iron is heated by an arc to +1,000 °C and begins to oxidize, that is, to burn in a stream of oxygen, releasing heat. The latter is sufficient to maintain the melting of the metal, and the process is not stopped by the supply of oxygen through the tubular electrode. The gas oxidizes the metal and blows out the oxidation products. This approach is recognized as the most economical among those used at a depth of 30–100 meters.

Highly efficient metal cutting in Moscow

But the success of metalworking and metal cutting also depends on the quality of the equipment.
Even the most accurate drawing will not help the contractor if it is necessary to cut a complex shape, and the production works only with non-mechanical equipment. In addition to simple mechanical cutting of metal workpieces, we are ready to offer you processing using the latest laser, plasma and waterjet equipment. It significantly saves our effort and reduces costs, so we carry out metal cutting in Moscow inexpensively. And always of very high quality: with an error calculated in hundredths of a millimeter. After all, our workshop is not a metal cutting workshop, but a multidisciplinary enterprise operating over large areas.

Waterjet method

Cutting products using the waterjet method has the following definition: cutting a material by exposing it to a mixture of sand and water supplied under pressure through a narrowly directed nozzle. Sand in combination with water can cut metal products with a thickness of 30 cm.

The method is one of the innovative ones. After cutting the part, there is no need for additional processing of its edges.

Waterjet cutting speed

This method does not apply to the hot method of cutting metal products, since there is no thermal effect on the workpiece. Thanks to this, cutting can be carried out without deforming the product.

The main disadvantage of the waterjet method is the inability to cut metals susceptible to corrosion. The equipment used is expensive and is not always available for private needs.

Mechanical metal cutting

There are still many admirers of traditional methods of metal processing - cutting using “cold” tools and machines. Such equipment includes a circular saw, guillotine, metal shears, grinder and band saw. With all mechanical methods of cutting metal to size, the sharpness of the cutting tool is important. Alas, this equipment is significantly inferior in accuracy to CNC machines, although cutting sheet metal to size in this case can be relatively inexpensive.

Plasma cutting of metal

Does not lag behind laser and plasma cutting of metal according to customer sizes in Moscow.
However, it should be taken into account that this is a high-temperature processing method: a plasma jet acts on the workpiece at temperatures from five to 30 thousand degrees. As in the case of laser cutting, heating occurs directly in the impact zone without disturbing the structure of the material. Plasma cutting of metal, the price of which in Moscow also does not exceed reasonable limits, is an ideal method for processing dielectrics, helping to obtain an even cut without defects.

Metal cutting services to order in Moscow

Do you have solid material or workpieces that need to be separated by cutting? The main field of our activity is the sale and cutting of metal at prices that are optimal for the capital. Our advantages for customers:

  • work with any types of cutting,
  • processing of workpieces of any permissible lengths and thicknesses,
  • fulfillment of urgent orders;
  • nice discounts for large quantities.

We offer cutting of various materials: iron, aluminum, copper, bronze, titanium, plain and stainless steel, and at a price very reasonable for metal cutting. You can order metal cutting services using the equipment you choose yourself, or trust our specialists: they will suggest the most economical and safe technology.

Impact cutting of metal on a guillotine

If you need metal cutting in Moscow inexpensively and the cutting itself is not complicated, we are ready to offer such a simple method as cutting metal using a guillotine. This technique is used for sheet metal - ferrous metal, aluminum, steel, copper. It is no coincidence that the device is called a guillotine: the principle of its operation is similar to the legendary execution weapon. To perform precise cutting of metal and cut the workpiece, just one blow of the knife is enough.

Electrical discharge cutting

Metal cutting to size can also be carried out using the electroerosive method.
It is used to produce small-sized parts that require high precision. The principle of operation of an electroerosive machine is based on the operation of direct current, which forms an electric arc. It, in essence, becomes a “cutting tool”. This type of cutting of metal parts can only be performed in a dielectric, which is usually distilled water, kerosene or oil. It is not used as often, since more precise cutting of metal can be done with a laser.

Gas cutting

Technology based on processing the workpiece with an oxygen-propane mixture can also offer fairly low prices for metal cutting. Metal separation also occurs as a result of melting. Today, this method is used less and less, since it is very difficult to obtain high-quality metal cut to size when using it.

Band saw cutting

Band saws are also used for cutting metal workpieces, but their capabilities are limited: they mainly work with sheet metal. The operation of a bench saw is based on the same principle as the operation of a simple hacksaw. The main driving elements of the machine are the belt that feeds the workpiece and the saw itself, equipped with teeth. The advantage of this metal cutting is the cost, since the equipment is inexpensive. The downside is limited cutting capabilities.

Cutting on a disc machine

The closest “colleague” of a band saw is a disk saw. This is an even simpler device, consisting of a toothed disk that the master attaches to the work table. If the order is carried out by an experienced person, cutting metal to size can be very accurate and precise, but its result is still difficult to compare with the work of a CNC machine.

Shaped cutting

Even the highest quality mechanical machine will not be able to help out if the customer needs shaped metal cutting in Moscow.
Such work can only be done with plasma and laser equipment. Our workshop has everything you need to create products of unusual shapes from metal blanks, make a drawing on them, and make an inscription. And all this at high speed and without the risk of material deformation.

Price for laser and plasma cutting of metal

Since plasma and laser cutting technologies remain the most advanced and popular, customers are interested in pricing in this category. Cutting metal to size in Moscow is determined by:

  • operating mode of the machine. In particular, the beam power required for processing;
  • complexity of the task. The price list for metal cutting during artistic processing is much higher than for simple straight cuts;
  • length of cut. This is one of the main indicators, both for steel cutting services and for cutting non-ferrous metals;
  • mass order: the larger the batch, the more significantly the cost of processing one part is reduced;
  • complexity of the project. Standard cutting to size will cost much less than cutting sheet metal to customer sizes or making shaped elements.

For metal cutting, the price in Moscow also correlates with the urgency of the work. If the customer sets a strict deadline, then, as a rule, he pays an additional percentage of the total cost of the project. Any additional actions can also contribute to cutting metal to order in Moscow - from finalizing drawings to finishing operations on workpieces.

Go to the desired category, open the cost tab - and you will see the specific cost of metal cutting work. And also make sure that these are very reasonable prices for cutting sheet metal in the capital.

Plasma cutting

Cutting a metal product with plasma involves exposing a certain area of it to a gas mixture under high pressure. The plasma flow is a highly heated and ionized gas. The flow temperature is 150000C.

Plasma arc and plasma jet cutting

Where the plasma is exposed to the part, it burns out and melts. Parts of the molten metal are blown out with a gas mixture. The method can be used to cut any type of product.

Plasma metal cutting is superior in productivity to all other methods. It is 10 times faster than any mechanical methods for cutting metal products. Plasma cutting is 4 times faster than the laser method.

The advantage of the method is that it can be used to cut metal products of various thicknesses (up to 150 mm).

There are disadvantages to this method:

  • metalworking of the edges of parts is required;
  • the edges after processing have a slight slope of 40;
  • It is not recommended to use for cutting titanium and other metal products of large thickness.
