Installing a winch on a UAZ 469 with your own hands

So I finally installed the winch. , or rather on the car)))
So, for all this we needed:

Getting started: Of course with a friend, of course at the dacha, of course with beer.

The guardrail is removed (if you have one);

We disconnect all wires from the parking sensors and fog lights (again, subject to availability);

We remove the bumper, unscrew the 4 bolts on each side of the frame, which are located at the attachment point of the triangular fastener of the bumper frame (I think it’s called an impact arrester or something like that). After this procedure, it is very easy to remove the entire bumper along with this pipe frame.

Remove the radiator grille, 4 screws on top and 2 screws on the bottom.

We separate the bumper from its frame, also by unscrewing. )))

We mark the future site on the channel according to the drawing, BUT JUST IN CASE, WE MEASURE EVERYTHING EQUALLY!, as the saying goes - “measure seven times - drink once.”

After finishing the platform itself, we try it on in its rightful place, placing a winch on it without rollers. Since the outer corner of the channel between the horizontal and vertical planes, although 90 degrees, is slightly rounded at the very bottom, so we started from the other side of the platform (the one towards the car), where the edge of the winch corresponded to the edge of the platform (at the same level) and it all rested closely against the eyelet securing the frame to the body through spacers (rested against the winch itself).

Next, having drilled holes on the platform for fastening the winch and also drilled holes for fastening the platform itself to the frame of the machine, we only screwed in two bolts on each side of the platform.

Having decided to slightly strengthen the frame at the attachment point, we welded two corners of a 5-piece (50mm wide and approximately 25-30 cm long) so that the edge protruding from the machine corresponded to the edge of the platform.

The welding seams were processed with a grinder (to give a flat surface under the platform) and painted so that they did not rust.

After all this, having screwed the platform onto the frame, 4 more mounting holes were marked and drilled (2 on each side); to be more precise, they were drilled directly on the already installed platform (through the channel along with the corner).

Next, holes were marked and drilled for attaching the winch rollers.

Having installed the rollers, directly through them on the side of the rollers, with a pencil, mark the outline of a rectangle through which the cable will be wound, on the sides close to the frame of the rollers, and on the top and bottom, at a large angle under which the cable can be wound.

After cutting the hole for the cable, the corners were slightly welded and cleaned, since it was not possible to make a neat cut due to the radius of the angle grinder.

Having drilled, cut and cleaned everything, the fitting took place. cool))). spray painted, screwed the platform to the frame, the winch to the platform, and the rollers there too.

We encountered some minor problems: for example, we first had to screw the negative wire to the winch from below, and then put it on the platform. And I had to file down the head of the roller mounting bolts by 1-2mm using sandpaper, but if you make the platform longer, the rollers will protrude a little beyond the bumper, but this is not so scary in principle. for taste and color.

Next, we screwed the solenoid block and wires to the winch, fully connected it and tested it for functionality.

When installing the bumper frame in its original place, it turned out that one of the horizontal pipes of the frame was in the way. Without hesitation, we cut it off altogether, and for better rigidity of the weakened frame, 2 bent sections were cut out of the cut meter-long pipe and welded into the frame, due to which it received much greater strength than before and nothing was damaged.

The frame was installed.

Next, we marked and then cut, first with a grinder, and then with a stationery knife, a rectangle the size of the rollers in the bumper.

When fitting the bumper onto the frame, it turned out that those two vertical sections of pipes welded into the frame were a little in the way, but since they moved only slightly, we cut out a place in the bumper for them. They are practically invisible (they are at the very bottom of the bumper where there are 4 longitudinal holes and they do not extend beyond the bumper).
