Soft glass to protect a glass table or 2nd life for a broken glass table

How to properly attach glass to a wooden surface (aesthetically)? I'm making a table with a glass surface.

There is a mirror factory in the Botanical Garden metro area (behind the bus stop 628 towards Berezovaya Alley), they make a lot of furniture using glass and mirrors - tables incl. They sell ready-made and make to order. You can buy or watch + “lick” ideas. Good luck!

That's the whole point, it's NOT.

Option 1: Use double-sided tape (black, two millimeters thick). Option 2: Use silicone sealant. To achieve an aesthetically pleasing finish, first apply masking tape and remove it after gluing.

If you make a wooden edging around the perimeter of the table, then (option 3) the glass does not need to be fixed, it will lie in a kind of niche and will not go anywhere.

Will the sealant be visible under the glass? I would like the wooden surface that the glass will cover to be uniform, without any traces of glue.

Did I understand correctly that there will be a solid wooden tabletop under the glass? Then there is no point in fixing the glass at all - in not so distant times, in any house there was thick glass with a wide chamfer on the desk, which was not at all easy to move. If the tree is only around the perimeter, then again you only need to secure it against displacement (unless you plan to periodically turn the table over), and for this, only a recess the thickness of the glass is enough, without additional fastening - the glass is very heavy and will not be able to jump out . If you want to play it safe, you can spot-apply either transparent glue or transparent sealant.

A glass table in an apartment interior is often used as a coffee table. It can enliven the decor of a room and is appropriate in a small room, as it creates a feeling of weightlessness of the product. The simplicity of the design allows you to make a glass table with your own hands. It is distinguished by its hygiene, as it is resistant to detergents and cleaning agents. Using modern materials for manufacturing, the table will be very practical and inexpensive.

General information

The oilcloth for the table is made from laminated protective transparent PVC film. Production - South Korea.

The product has a shiny laminated surface and reliably protects the table from any damage. The oilcloth structure is flexible and durable. It is tear-resistant, practically does not wrinkle and cannot be cut with a knife. Soft glass remains transparent for a long time and retains all its properties.

Thanks to the flexible tablecloth, wear and tear on the tabletop is reduced. Dust on the surface covered with a protective film is practically invisible, any dirt can be easily wiped off without scratching or staining the table material.

Where can I use it?

Flexible glass is intended for use:

  • in any office;
  • in the kitchen;
  • in the dining room;
  • in a restaurant (cafe).

Which table is it suitable for?

Protective film is suitable for all types of tables, but is especially relevant for glass and lacquered ones. The tablecloth protects the kitchen table from cuts, the desk from rubbing, and the dining table from accidental stains.

It can also be any table in shape:

  • rectangular;
  • square;
  • round;
  • oval;
  • non-standard shape.

Tip On a rough surface (for example, unpolished wood or textured PVC film), flexible glass will constantly slide. To hold it, you will have to use gentle glue.

Main characteristics

Before purchasing the product, you must select the thickness:

  • 1.2 mm is used to protect chests of drawers, window sills, children's and school tables;
  • 1.8 mm is well suited for the kitchen (protection of tables and countertops), children's (protection of desks) and office (protection of tables and window sills);
  • 2.2 mm is designed to protect large surfaces and helps emphasize the premium quality of the interior.

Liquid glass on the table has the following characteristics:

  • Duration of operation - up to 5 years;
  • transparency - 98%;
  • hardness - 37;
  • blue pigment that protects against yellowness;
  • resistance to sunlight;
  • food standard - the material is allowed for contact with food;
  • synthetic smell - absent;
  • There are no heavy metal impurities in the composition.

Advantages of flexible glass

Main advantages of the product:

  • easy to trim after shrinkage;
  • has a comfortable temperature range - from –20 to +80;
  • merges with the surface;
  • just spread out;
  • does not slip, lies well under its own weight;
  • greasy stains are not eaten away;
  • any dirt is easily removed.

If you want, you can decorate the tablecloth. Any stickers can be easily attached to the silicone surface. You can also paint it with permanent paint, or attach fringe around the perimeter.

Main disadvantages

Over time, the film may shrink. This happens even against the backdrop of careful operation and proper maintenance. The color of the film becomes cloudy, and the product itself takes on a sloppy appearance.

The deformation cannot be corrected, and therefore you have to purchase a new tablecloth.

How to glue correctly

It turns out that you can glue it incorrectly. Only at first glance does this procedure seem so primitive. In addition to the recommendations indicated on the packaging of the adhesive composition, it is important to take into account the fact where the glued object will subsequently be used.

Despite the fact that a glass tabletop looks stylish and elegant even without the use of additional decor, it can be made even more interesting and attractive in appearance.

Among the general recommendations, it is worth noting the following:

  • Never skip the point about degreasing surfaces. Often, the strength of the bond depends on the quality of the pre-treatment. After all, in this way all dirt and fatty layers that interfere with the strong adhesion of the two surfaces are removed.
  • Paint, varnish and other coatings must also be removed from surfaces, since they significantly reduce the degree of adhesion.
  • Warm up the glass surface before gluing. The optimal temperature is 30 degrees Celsius above zero. To achieve this figure, you will need a hair dryer. Important: remember that if there is a sharp change in temperature, the glass surface may crack, so heat gradually and with great care, fully controlling the process.
  • To make the glue dry faster, use a press. The main thing is that the load is uniform, otherwise the glass will crack.

A glass tabletop is usually attached to one material, such as metal pipes.

Cyanoacrylate

The main advantages of this adhesive are its water resistance and minimal drying time.

Cyanoacrylate has many benefits.

The algorithm of actions is as follows:

  1. Surfaces are properly prepared. As already mentioned, you should not save time at this stage. Carry out degreasing as required by the instructions.
  2. The two components are mixed until a homogeneous mass is obtained. And remember, the mixture retains its plastic state for only a few minutes, then it hardens, and you will no longer be able to glue anything with it.
  3. The mixture is applied to the prepared surfaces and they are glued together.
  4. The tighter the connection you provide at the time of gluing, the more reliable the result will be.

The reliability of the result will depend on the quality of the materials.

Sealant

Sealant can also be used as an adhesive. Usually, thanks to the sealant, a high degree of joint insulation is achieved. And therefore, sealant as an adhesive is used in situations where it is required to provide not high strength, but water resistance.

Silicone sealant joints are very durable.

The algorithm of actions is almost the same as in the case of glue. The only caveat: it takes longer to dry. In addition, the strength of the connection is not as strong as after using special adhesives.

Sealant is often used for gluing furniture.

Moment crystal

Another composition that is universally popular. The moment forms a soft layer that allows you to withstand even slight displacement of the bonded surfaces. But after drying it regains its shape.

To avoid having to scrub off superglue, be as careful as possible when using it.

How to use Moment Crystal:

  1. Prepare the surfaces well, remove any remaining adhesive and paint. Heat the glass and metal, this will provide a more reliable connection.
  2. The adhesive is available in liquid or paste form. In any case, for more effective adhesion, you need to thoroughly level the adhesive over the surface.
  3. To enhance the effect, a high load should be placed on the surfaces to be glued, but remember, it must be uniform, otherwise the glass may burst.
  4. The amount of time required for drying is usually indicated in the instructions, but to be 100% sure, it is recommended to allow more time.

Glue very often does not end up where it was originally planned.

Automotive glue

Transparent car glue is available on sale. Thanks to it, you can also obtain a strong connection between surfaces made of different materials.

Automotive glue will help glue the legs to the tabletop.

The work order is as follows:

  • Surfaces are prepared. All foreign substances and coatings are removed. Try to achieve maximum smoothness of the glued planes.
  • For degreasing, products that do not leave a film are used.
  • It is checked how tightly the surfaces are connected to each other.
  • Using a construction hair dryer, the surfaces are heated to 30 degrees Celsius (not higher). Remember that both glass and metal surfaces heat up.
  • The parts are arranged so that the seam is as horizontal as possible.
  • While the surface is warm, the adhesive is applied and distributed evenly. If there is any excess that comes out, it should be removed immediately, as this will be difficult to do once it has hardened.

The most popular on the market are adhesives from English, Italian and German brands:
Automotive glue is offered today in a sufficient range. However, professionals recommend giving preference to products from well-known brands that have earned a serious reputation. Otherwise, you are not immune from unpleasant surprises.

Ultraviolet lamp

An ultraviolet lamp is another way to connect surfaces of different materials. It's quite simple to work with.

A UV lamp will help in gluing the table.

It is useful when, in order to attach a metal part to a glass base, you use special adhesives such as VERIFIX MV 750 or B 682-0.

UV adhesives from these manufacturers bond glass to metal and other materials.

To get a decent result, take into account the following recommendations:

  1. Before work, clean the surface, get rid of any small debris, as well as paint residues. Degrease the surfaces, but under no circumstances use gasoline or kerosene for this, as they leave a film behind. Special liquid degreasers are sold for glass.
  2. Warm up the surfaces with a construction hairdryer, and thanks to this, you will increase the level of adhesion. In this case, you need to heat it to 60 degrees.
  3. Apply a thin layer of glue, spread evenly over the surface and connect the parts.
  4. Now the ultraviolet lamp treatment begins. The surface to be bonded must be irradiated twice. After the first treatment, the strength of the connection reaches approximately 70%, and after the second we can safely talk about 100% conjugation. Remember that the duration of irradiation depends on the power of the device. And the first stage of irradiation is usually much longer than the second.

Obviously, today there are enough means available with which you can glue a glass tabletop to metal. They differ in price and method of application, but in general, most adhesives guarantee a decent result.

Carry out all work carefully.

Liquid glass on the table is a good solution for both the kitchen, children's room or office. The main advantage is resistance to moisture and abrasion. Such protection is especially useful for glass and polished tables. On a desk, such a film will successfully replace plexiglass. It is transparent, but impenetrable to dust, water and various contaminants, so it will extend the life of the countertop.

What is a glass table cover?

There are two types of glass top tables:

  1. Many people purchase glass tables with a monolithic top.
  2. There are also transformable tables that can increase the length of the tabletop.

Important! This option is indispensable for a large family. In addition, it is ideal for a home holiday feast.

Such coatings are made from three types of glass:

  • Tinted. This option attracts more attention from visitors to the home. Using this coating, you can highlight the interior of the room in which the piece of furniture is located.

Important! It will look very original if you add black chairs to a black glass table in the kitchen.

  • Matte. In this case, the glass takes on a slightly greenish color, as it is natural for such a material.
  • Glass. In the interior of any room, such a design seems weightless and not as bulky as it actually is, and this adds a certain lightness and airiness to the room.

How to fix glass on a table?

If you are tired of the old wooden tabletop, you can replace it with a glass one or make a glass table with your own hands. Many craftsmen are faced with the problem of attaching a new tabletop to a metal leg. You will learn how to fix the glass on the table and what kind of fasteners it should be in this article.

Pros and cons of the material

Before you move on to attaching the glass tabletop to the table, you need to understand all the advantages and disadvantages of the material you have chosen.

Let's start with the positive aspects:

  • Original design. Glass tables make a very good impression and lift the mood of both residents and guests. This table looks especially great in a high-tech style interior.
  • Resistance to external irritants. Many users are afraid to buy a countertop made of this material for fear that the glass may break. In fact, such a coating can be much stronger than wood.
  • Moisture resistance and temperature resistance. Tempered glass is not frightened by actively changing environmental conditions.
  • Easy care. Such tables are very hygienic and easy to care for, including removing coloring and greasy substances, which is a definite plus. For the same reason, ordinary wooden kitchen tables are inferior to glass-topped tables.

Before you attach the glass to the table, think about it, because this surface also has some minor disadvantages:

  • There are many stains and marks left on the surface. This problem can be solved by purchasing a matte countertop.
  • Even the smallest dirt is visible. You have to remove all the stains with a liquid designed for cleaning glass.
  • The coating can be easily scratched.
  • Creates a lot of noise when paired with kitchen utensils.
  • High price.

Let's move on to the attachment

Now is the time to get down to business. To do this you will have to follow this algorithm of actions:

  • Make a hole at the ends of each leg.
  • Attach suction cups to these holes using very strong glue.

Important! The adhesive used to attach the mirror surface will be visible through the transparent glass of the future table. In addition, such a composition takes a very long time to dry, which will be unacceptable for this work, unless, of course, there is an additional fastener on the leg.

  • When the adhesive has dried, use a felt-tip pen to mark the locations of the furniture legs on the tabletop.
  • Degrease the marked areas using acetone or gasoline.
  • Glue the glass tabletop to the legs of the table and wait for it to fully set.
  • Irradiate until the adhesive completely polymerizes.

Important! It is necessary to take into account that it will not be possible to tear off the tabletop and re-attach the glass, so it is necessary to measure everything perfectly accurately.

Exploitation

A glass tabletop needs to be handled very carefully. For this reason, it is necessary to follow a number of mandatory rules for caring for the surface:

  • Such a covering is wiped only with artificial suede or a microfiber cloth - these materials leave a minimal amount of stains.
  • To clean the coating, household chemicals are used, namely glass and mirror surface cleaners. This should be done approximately 1-2 times a week, as there is a risk of aggressive chemical compounds getting on the food.
  • You can easily get rid of scratches by sanding the surface with GOI paste, toothpaste or Polarit.
  • To prevent scratches and chips, place special napkins on the table - they are quite easy to find in stores.

Pros and cons of the material

  • The coating can be easily scratched.
  • Creates a lot of noise when paired with kitchen utensils.
  • High price.

Preparation of material and tools

The tabletop can be cut from transparent, frosted, textured, tinted glass or mirror cloth. Transparent glass visually expands the interior of the room. A colored countertop can be an organic addition to the decor of the room. A dark color will create a “glamorous” style. A kitchen table with black glass, complemented by white chairs, will look impressive.

If you have no experience in making furniture, it is better to make a table with your own hands with a solid tabletop and metal legs. Having mastered the technology of working with such material, in the future you will be able to figure out how to make a table from glass of a more complex type.

To make a high-quality table you will need:

  • sheet of glass;
  • metal legs;
  • suction cups for attaching to the tabletop;
  • wood glue for metal and glass;
  • gloves and safety glasses;
  • metal-glass glue, polishing paste.

Tools for cutting glass: 1 – square; 2 – corborundum stone; 3 – compass for cutting glass; 4 – pliers; 5, 6, 7 – glass cutters.

  • diamond or roller glass cutter;
  • pliers with rubber pads;
  • metal ruler of suitable length;
  • grinder (grinder), drill;
  • grinding discs, felt wheel;
  • pencil for marking.
  • file (emery block).

Glass should be purchased tempered, 6-12 mm thick. It must be clean and dry when cutting. On dirty material, the cut may be uneven. Having decided on the location of the homemade piece of furniture, plan its dimensions. Apply the accepted dimensions to the sketch. Mark the mounting locations for the legs.

If you want to remove scratches and scuffs from glass, you can't do without valuable advice. Scratches spoil the appearance of the product, which had a neat appearance before this unpleasant incident.

1. Try toothpaste 2. Try ammonia solution 3. For deeper scratches 4. You can try jewelry polishing paste and pad

How to remove hated defects? First, prepare GOI paste. This special glue is sold in automotive stores. Pasta is sold by number. For glass products we will need the first or second number.

In order to get rid of cracks in glass, you need to grind the paste until it becomes crumbly. At the same time, it must be given homogeneity. Polish out any imperfections. In order to remove them, you need to dip a cotton swab into the crushed paste. You need to polish the scratches carefully, without pressing the stick. The procedure is repeated several times, and its duration is about ten seconds. Once polishing is complete, remove excess paste from the glass.

Repairing a wobbly table

In order to repair a table leg that is wobbly, you need to understand the fasteners. The legs of the table were glued at the factory with a special glue, which may dry out over time. If the legs are secured with dowels, screws, screws, etc., they can simply be unscrewed and replaced. The legs can be glued if the tabletop is attached to them with adhesive bonds. In order to get to the damaged elements, the table is turned over in disassembled form. The screws are unscrewed from the tabletop itself. If a crack has formed on the leg under the tabletop, it can be glued. Place glue into the crack and cover it with a countertop.

If the glass tabletop is on a wooden frame

We completely disassemble the base. We clean the old dowels from the old glue, apply new glue and put it in place. You can secure the loose leg with this tie. Screw the pin into the leg and tighten the tie plate into place with self-tapping screws.

You can strengthen the connections with metal elements. Give preference to the dowel. Insert one end of it into the cleaned hole, and sharpen the other so that it fits smoothly into the connection. Now you need to assemble the product. If you have never assembled it before, watch the video.

Features and characteristics of transparent film for the table

“Liquid glass” is a durable film for table protection, made using modern technologies from polyvinyl chloride.

It gained its popularity due to its advantages:

  • remains almost invisible, without covering the color and design;
  • a transparent film on the table will protect it from exposure to ultraviolet rays, moisture and household chemicals;
  • it is heat-resistant and does not deform from high temperatures.
  • “liquid glass” is suitable not only for the kitchen, but also for the office. It will protect the work surface from scratches.
  • You can attach photographs, phone numbers, and necessary documents under a transparent thick film.

PVC material from which soft glass is made:

  • hypoallergenic;
  • flame retardant;
  • wear-resistant;
  • withstands low temperatures, up to – 15 degrees.

The thickness of the silicone film for the table is only 2-3 mm, the service life is 5 years.

When folding and transporting, no creases or cracks form on the silicone film. An unpacked tablecloth easily takes on its original appearance.

How to fix glass on a table - Furniture portal

Glass products in interior design always look light and elegant. The transparent texture does not create a piling effect, and the strength of the special thickened furniture glass will allow the product to serve you for a long time. Making a table with a glass top with your own hands will allow you not only to save a significant amount of money, but also to create a unique, exclusive design.

How to choose glass for a table?

The most important parameter in the characteristics of glass is its thickness. In second place will be the texture: matte, glossy, with a relief pattern. In some cases, the color of the glass will be important. The type of material you choose depends on the purpose of your table. Glass with a thickness of 5-6 mm is suitable for a coffee table.

Such products do not experience heavy loads, so this thickness will be optimal. If you are planning a large dining table, then the glass thickness should be 8-10 mm. It is better to order the tabletop itself from a glass company.

Using professional equipment, you can cut any shape of the tabletop, as well as carefully process the edges.

The table must fit into the interior of the room in which it will be located. If the furniture in your home is in a classic style, then the table legs should be made of solid wood, with carved patterns and curls.

To make the tree presentable, you can cover it with stain, imitating expensive wood. If you have even a little experience in creating furniture, then it will not be difficult to make a glass table with your own hands.

The photo shows an option that is made of only one glass.

For lovers of high-tech style, a table with metal symmetrical legs is suitable, and the tabletop itself can be in the shape of a circle or square. The Mediterranean style implies simplicity in the interior, so the glass tabletop can be placed on rough wooden legs of the correct shape, painted, for example, white.

The most important and most expensive element of a glass table is the tabletop. If you are wondering how to make a glass table with your own hands, then you need to know about some rules for glass processing.

Cutting it to the right size can be a challenging task for a beginner. Practice on scraps before starting work. If the glass cutter is roller and not diamond, then the pressure force should be approximately 2 kg.

If you have a good, even cut, you can proceed to the next stage - processing the edges. Before starting work, be sure to take care of eye and hand protection. For convenience, you can soak the file in turpentine or kerosene. Movements should be smooth, along the edges of the sheet. You can use an emery block.

Next comes the stage of grinding the edges. To perform this work, a grinder with a special grinding attachment is used. The angle at which the corners are cut should be the same throughout the entire perimeter. Sanded edges are polished. The curve of the tabletop should be smooth and smooth.

Wooden base

To make such a table you will need a 50 x 50 mm beam if you are planning a coffee table. You can use a board, it all depends on the design of the structure.

Let's consider making a glass table for the kitchen with your own hands, measuring 800 x 1400 mm. For such a massive product you will need a beam of 150 x 150 mm. The surface of the timber must be carefully sanded, it must be perfectly smooth. To protect the wood, you need to apply varnish, stain or paint. If you want the structure of the wood to be visible, then use varnish or stain.

Advantages and disadvantages of the material

Advantages of liquid glass film for the table:

  • Ease of removing contaminants that are removed from the surface without the use of cleaning agents and detergents.
  • Easy to care for the product.
  • Invisibility - a transparent thick film is invisible on the table and does not violate the integrity of the interior of the room;
  • Durability - silicone material can serve as a coating for several years.
  • No smell.
  • Stability on the surface - the silicone tablecloth does not slip or move from the tabletop.

Types of coatings: which is better?

Below are the most popular types of kitchen table covers:

  • metal;
  • plastic;
  • natural/artificial stone;
  • glass.

Metal tables are made of stainless steel. The attractiveness of use lies in the extreme practicality of such a table. Indeed, stainless steel worktops are almost always used in professional kitchens.

However, if we talk about the kitchen as part of an ordinary apartment, then it hardly makes sense to use stainless steel. After all, a kitchen is a room that, in addition to its practicality, should also have design.

It is better to avoid plastic right away - it is certainly one of the most affordable work surface coatings. But caring for plastic requires scrupulous care. Not all cleaning products are suitable. Plastic is not fireproof, etc. Too many shortcomings.

Silicone table pads

Types of soft glass tablecloths:

  • The bulk of silicone pads are available in a colorless version.
  • There are silicone tablecloths for tables with a pattern, which allows you to give the room a more original look. Any design is applied to the film on the inside, which guarantees a long service life. Most often, images of fruits, berries, flowers and intricate geometric shapes are used.
  • Buyers have the opportunity to purchase a matte film; it looks quite unusual on the countertop and does not interfere with the overall interior.

For the convenience of using thick film, you can attach special corner silicone pads to the corners of the table. They additionally prevent premature damage to furniture.

Corner pads will be useful for families with small children; they will prevent injuries from sharp corners.

For which table surfaces is transparent film suitable?

Silicone film is suitable for almost any type of countertop, provided that it has a smooth surface.

Below are the most common use cases.

  • Film for a glass table is the best option, as it will protect it from chips, cracks and scratches and will be almost invisible.
  • A transparent film on a metal or wooden table is also a good solution. Its thick surface protects furniture from getting grease, dyes and getting wet.
  • A thick transparent film is also suitable for a plastic table in a children's room. The transparent surface will protect the furniture from paint and plasticine while the child is studying.
  • Covering a marble table with film is a bold decision, but thanks to it, excess moisture will not penetrate into the stone surface.

Glass table care

Taking care of a glass table

In order for the product to serve you as long as possible, it will require proper care. How to care for a glass table? First you need to figure out how to protect it from damage. If you cleaned the room, the table must be set. This will protect it from dust and possible damage. It is necessary to find a special approach to the glass table - wipe it with special compounds, protect it from exposure to direct sunlight and temperature changes.

If you have small children, a glass table could put their lives at risk. To prevent children from getting hurt or accidentally breaking the product, move the table away from children's games. It is best to install a glass table in places where it will be least exposed to household occupants. Pets are another risk to the existence of glass products. Fluffy fidgets can both break and scratch the table. For this reason, it is better to keep them away from the product. As you can see, if you properly treat a glass table, this piece of furniture can serve you for many years.

To glue glass to metal at home, you need to act very carefully and know several subtleties of the process, in particular, what exactly to glue. Glass is a delicate material, its properties affect how surfaces adhere to other matter.

When gluing, you need to pay attention not only to the use of methods for good adhesion of the glass surface and metal, but to maintaining the appearance of the product. Taking into account the product and the amount of work, they determine what can be used to glue the glass to the metal.

There are several types of glue for gluing:

  • UV glue and UV lamp;
  • Super glue;
  • special adhesive type B 682-0, Verifix MV 750;
  • epoxy adhesive;
  • automobile;
  • Moment;
  • transparent silicone sealant.

How to lay film on a glass table

The overlay is laid on the surface without any particular difficulties, but it requires following a special algorithm:

  • Before covering the table with film, it is wiped from dirt and dust so that the stains are absolutely invisible.
  • Then the “soft glass” is spread on the surface and pressed against it with both hands.
  • If bubbles have formed under the cover, the “liquid glass” should be carefully lifted, spray the surface with water from a spray bottle, and press again. This method of installation will allow air to escape along with water, and the magnetic film will be leveled on the table.

Soft glass to protect a glass table or 2nd life for a broken glass table

Hi all. Today I’ll tell you about how I gave a second life to my glass table after I broke the first one. In many of my reviews you might have seen my desk that I use for the background. I really like this coloring of his, I’ve never seen living bamboo in my life, and here is such a highlight, but it’s all lyrics. And it so happened that we dropped something heavy on it, and now it is covered in cracks. If the appearance of cracks I can still tolerate. the tactile sensations from the cracks are completely unpleasant. We haven’t decided to change the table yet; it fits well into the overall concept of our bamboo kitchen. It was decided to buy a thick transparent PVC film, often called soft glass, which I have only seen in videos on the Internet, and never in real life. Let's see what came out of this? Order

The order was placed on July 29, arrived at my home using Aliexpress Premium Shipping. Delivered in 1.5 weeks.

Package

The film arrived rolled into a durable tube.

There is no rod, the film itself is wound on itself, sticking together in layers. The result is a very dense tube; damage to it during delivery can only be done on purpose. And given that the delivery was a pony express service, I think this is out of the question.

There was also this label on the film.

Installation

In general, the review will not be great, because there is nothing special to tell. My table is 70x110 cm, I ordered a film with dimensions of 80x120 cm. The film arrived with the ideal size, I could save a little and not take it with such a reserve. Although I would still have to cut it, since the corners of the table are round. The thickness of the film, as stated, is 1 mm. There is no additional shipping film. The film fits perfectly and sticks to a flat surface. The film itself is plastic, but very durable. Well, let's get started... I already had experience gluing vinyl films. I remember now that a spray with soapy water and a special “water cleaner” were used. Armed with everything we needed, my wife and I started gluing. First, we sprayed soapy water on the table and put down the film.

Soapy water allows you to perfectly position the film on the surface of the table, moving it, preventing it from sticking. We leveled the film and began to expel the water from under the film with a “water distiller”. We move it around the table until all the bubbles are expelled. After this, you need to let the film rest for at least a day, without lifting it from the table. After this, the water evaporates and the film is sucked to the table. After gluing, naturally, all that remains is to trim off the excess around the edges. Trimmed. We go through again, expelling the remaining bubbles. The cracks that were on the table are now covered with a layer of film and are absolutely not noticeable to the touch. There is no risk of planting a splinter or anything like that.

Here's a look with the almost finished result.

Video review

In order to evaluate the process of installing such a coating, my wife and I made a short video review where we showed what this process looks like in real life. I recommend everyone to watch it, because there is very little information on this topic, or I couldn’t find it.

Conclusion

We are happy, and the table will probably live with us for another year or two. In general, of course, I highly recommend purchasing such a film for those who have a glass table, but in its entirety. This film will perfectly protect the table from the same fate as mine. Another huge plus is that there are no streaks left on a table covered with film. Anyone who has a glass table knows that such a surface likes to collect all kinds of household dirt and does not immediately want to be washed to perfection. Plus, if the table is made up of several parts, the gap, even a small one, between the halves is constantly annoying; bread crumbs are constantly trying to get in there. This film will perfectly cover this place. She is not afraid of hot things, we pour tea directly from the fire into cups and place them on the table, and plates of soup do the same. Another plus that I did not consider, but was reminded in the comments by dear sergjjj_0, is sound insulation. The surface is soft and, as it were, grippy (like any rubberized part creates a grippy feeling), but at the same time so dense that there are no circles left from the dishes. In general, dishes no longer knock on the table. The only scourge of such film is an inquisitive child who strives to peel off the edge of the film from the table. As far as I can judge from videos on the Internet, such a film can also be useful for owners of wooden tables, tables made of solid wood, for protecting shelves, and you never know how to use it. Some may think that it is expensive, but I definitely think that it is cheaper than ordering photo printing for a new table. That's all. I wish you all a great mood and joy from shopping. Let your things serve you for a long time. And, by the way, during the sale on August 28, the price will drop a little more.

How to care for the product

“Liquid glass” requires simple care. It should be wiped with a damp microfiber cloth or soft cloth.

Fleecy fabric is not suitable for caring for the surface of the tablecloth; it will leave marks. It is not recommended to use powders and products containing alkali, chlorine and acid for cleaning. Their use will significantly reduce the life of the tablecloth.

To remove an old grease stain on an adhesive film on the table, you need to apply a small amount of dishwashing detergent to it and leave it for a few minutes. Then the surface is wiped with a soft cloth.

The most famous manufacturer of table film in the world is the Japanese company Meiwa . They provide clear, colored, matte overlays to the market. , both in large rolls and in standard tabletop sizes.

In terms of their positive qualities, glass table films from domestic manufacturers do not lag behind Japanese ones. Decosave and Modern companies produce both transparent overlays and tablecloths in various shades and patterns, which allows you to match them to any interior.

The best company in Belarus producing transparent thick film for the table is considered to be “Ofiston” . Their transparent tablecloths have gained popularity among customers, which indicates the high quality of the product.

Everyone has probably heard about the Swiss company Ikea. The quality of this company's products is evidenced by many positive reviews. The models of table films that are most quickly leaving the shelves of the Ikea store are the transparent “Preuss” and “Skrutt” .

The following companies are also successful in selling silicone tablecloths:

  • Durable;
  • Esselte;
  • Leitz.

How much does soft glass cost?

The cost of silicone film for the table depends on the size. Below are approximate price categories:

  • 70*60 cm = 1000 rubles
  • 140*60 cm = 1500 rubles
  • 140*80 cm = 1900 rubles
  • 140*100 cm = 2200 rubles.

When purchasing a new table for your home, you can choose the most beautiful options. Don't be afraid to experiment with colors and materials, don't be afraid to buy glass furniture. The transparent overlay will extend its use for quite a long time.
