Wooden oil press: advantages and disadvantages of an oak mechanism

Oak press for cold oil extraction: design features

During operation, the oil and metal structures do not heat up, since when working on an oak press, the temperature of the working environment does not exceed +25 degrees.

During operation, metal screws heat up to 60 degrees as a result of friction. Therefore, cold-pressed oil obtained on an oak press retains all its characteristics, and the bactericidal properties of oak ensure protection and compliance with sanitary and hygienic requirements for the product.

Oak protects against pathogenic bacteria, fungi and mold, ensuring long-term storage of the resulting product.

A small oak press for using cold pressing technology is designed for a working force of up to 15 tons. It can be used to press all oilseeds:

  • sunflower;
  • flax seeds;
  • peanuts;
  • pumpkin seeds;
  • sesame;
  • walnut;
  • pine nuts;
  • almonds

Package Included:

  • metal frame designed for increased loads;
  • a form in the form of a barrel made of Far Eastern oak, into which raw materials are poured and pressed;
  • hydraulic drive mounted on the frame to transmit the force of the hydraulic pump;
  • manual hydraulic or electric pump depending on the configuration;
  • high pressure hose for connecting the hydraulic drive to the hydraulic pump;
  • pressure gauge for monitoring working pressure during operation;
  • linen bags into which raw materials are loaded before being sent to an oak mold;
  • tray for collecting the product.

You can use an oak oil press for personal consumption and for producing a small amount of product for sale. Entrepreneurs can use an electric oil station of suitable power, to which several oak presses can be connected simultaneously to create a production line for the production of high-quality cold-pressed oil.

Tips for choosing

The choice of an oil press should be taken seriously and responsibly. First of all, this is due to the fact that the device is not so simple, it has a complex mechanism of action, and you should know the subtleties in order to avoid mistakes and get a truly useful and excellent result. Please pay attention to several main nuances when choosing a device:

  • The bed is the basis of the structure on which all elements of the equipment are fixed. The better they are attached, the higher the quality of the materials from which they are made, the higher the reliability of the device. We recommend choosing cast products.
  • Protective elements. Unit parts are protected by special structures and casings. Thanks to them, the equipment will become practically invulnerable and durable.
  • The screw shaft is a key element of the oil press. A high-quality device is subjected to hardening and carburization, and only after that the device is used in full.

When choosing, consider several significant technical characteristics:

  • Oil output. If you have a cold press, it ranges from 36 to 43%.
  • The productivity of the device determines the amount of cold raw materials processed over a certain period of time. Electric drive power. The power of the device as a whole and, accordingly, its results will largely depend on it.
  • The weight of the unit is a serious issue. In a large farm production, the weight can be considerable, since the device will stand in one place. In private households, we recommend purchasing a lightweight oil press that is ready for transportation.

Otherwise, we advise you to rely on your own feelings and wishes when choosing an oil press. Based on your goals, requirements and level of finances that you are willing to spend on the device. We hope this article will help you decide on the ideal device. Enjoy the shopping!

Operating principle

It should be borne in mind that the amount of the finished product depends on the type of oilseed that is used as a raw material. Before starting work, it is necessary to install the oak barrel in which the pressing will take place in the lower part of the metal frame under the press so that the clamp located on the edge is at the bottom.

A linen bag with raw materials is placed in the barrel, which should lie flat in the bag and not in a “slide”. You only need to press the raw materials lying in an even layer, otherwise you can damage the press.

The heel should be lowered smoothly using the hydraulic pump. When using a press on which a bottle jack is installed, its rod must be rested against the upper part of the iron frame.

The piston should evenly adhere to the surface of the oak barrel. There is no need to exert any sudden force on the hydraulic pump, otherwise the hydraulic pump may break. For pressing in one working cycle, the amount of raw material should not be less than 70% of the volume of an oak barrel. Otherwise, the hydraulic cylinder may break as a result of high pressure on the rod at its maximum extension.

The optimal operating pressure is considered to be 25-35 MPa, which corresponds to 10-15 tons. The pressing process, depending on the type of raw material, can last from 20 to 60 minutes. There are a number of oilseeds, such as black seed, that can take several hours to compress the oil.

After the oil stops dripping into the container for collecting the finished product or the interval between drops is large, you need to unscrew the check valve or the hydraulic pump tap if you are using a bottle jack. Then lift the rod, disassemble the wooden mold, removing the piston and bag of cake from it.

Butter churn from an old washing machine

Let's tell you a little about how you can make oil dishes for obtaining olive or sunflower oil with your own hands and what features there are in these matters.

  1. Mini oilers for pressing allow you to produce oil that is suitable for consumption for two years. You can assemble the device yourself or buy special presses for household use.
  2. Homemade oilers are designed to produce products from sunflowers, olives or seeds with nuts. It all depends on what kind of oil you need.
  3. The easiest way to make wringer oilers with your own hands is to adapt a mechanical press. Previously, they sold a hand press, with the help of which they squeezed juice out of grapes and apples. To obtain olive oil using the pressing method, you don’t even need to change attachments. The holder is replaced with a device with increased power. This will allow you to use the unit as a press for squeezing sunflower oil or olive oil, beloved by many.
  4. If you can’t purchase a manual squeezing press, you can make the device yourself using improvised means. A homemade press involves the use of a worm screw for pressing. The pressure generated depends on the power of the beam risers and the diameter of the worm nut. It is recommended to make a beam with a power reserve. The best option is an oak mechanism. If you cannot assemble an oak unit, you can use a metal structure.
  5. The design provides for a cylinder without a bottom. It is made or made from part of a barrel. It is recommended to strengthen the structure from below with an additional metal hoop. The main thing is that the material is dry and made from hardwood. An oak cylinder would be the ideal solution.
  6. Peeling spin rollers. This is a pair of replaceable rollers that rotate due to gears. The gears are mounted on metal racks and buckets - upper and lower - are fixed to them. There is also a handle for rotation or a toggle lever. All this is assembled from scrap metal. Only the rollers are made of wood and lined with grater cloth.

How does he work

Having a ready-made design and replaceable squeezing attachments, you can start making sunflower or olive oil.

  • A seed is poured into the ladle;
  • The handle sets in motion the mechanism that acts on the seeds with a grater;
  • The seeds end up in the gap between the rollers, due to which the peeling process occurs;
  • The kernels and husks end up in the lower bucket;
  • The mixture is collected and winnowed;
  • Roller attachments are replaced with smooth spin devices;
  • The mixture is again placed in the upper ladle for rolling;
  • The corresponding lever is moved to the second position to disengage the gear. Now it will rotate freely in the direction of the second gear, pressing and squeezing the seeds;
  • As a result of rolling, a mushy mass is formed, which is sent for pressing.

The output percentage of finished products is not as high as with specialized equipment. This is due to the fact that the nozzles of a home oiler operate with insufficient pressure. This can be corrected using a hydraulic press or an electric motor.

Important advantages are the minimal cost of constructing an oiler and obtaining a high-quality natural product by pressing.

For home use, you can purchase a wooden unit or an auger. Both the wooden and screw type oilers have excellent efficiency.

A screw unit will cost approximately 13-15 thousand rubles, and for a wooden hydraulic press you will have to pay at least 50 thousand rubles.

But if you use the resulting oil not only for yourself, but also sell it to friends or acquaintances, over time, buying an oil can will completely justify itself.

Even with a mini oiler, you can organize a small business producing cold-pressed olive oil or the most popular sunflower oil.

Mini - Screw oil mills, Oil press, Mini - Oliynitsa

Mini - Screw oil mills for the production of vegetable oils, productivity 30-50 kg/seed/hour, yield 30-45% (depending on the oil content of the seeds). The machine can be used to produce granulated feed.

Advantages of the Creamery design: — The machine can additionally be used for the production of granulated feed; — The drive of the machine is soft, smooth, creates convenient operation for the bearings and electric drive; — Machine augers are separated from the drive, so you can easily and inexpensively replace a worn one with a new one; — The oil press can be easily transported in the trunk of a car; — The resulting oil (steamed) does not foam when frying; At will, the oil can be produced with or without odor.

The screw rotation speed is up to 60 rpm, it gives a good spin percentage. And “Machines with higher productivity and relatively low price” simply use a higher drive speed, which causes a large % loss in oil yield. Draw conclusions about what is more profitable for you, “higher productivity” or a higher percentage of oil extraction.

If you decide to start your own business, you should pay attention to food products, since people always need food. Creamery may be an excellent choice.

Today, for relatively high productivity, it is much more profitable to supply workshop oil

1, 2, 3 Mini oil mills, rather than installing one large, expensive machine, which in any case will cost more.

If you don’t have your own raw materials, you can negotiate and accept them for processing. The oil produced on different screw presses is identical in its preparation and composition. But in a workshop with Mini-Oil Mills, you can turn on 1 machine, several or all, and at the same time produce different oils - with or without a smell, adding roasted seeds to the bunkers of some machines.

Prevention and repair of Mini Oil Mills is much cheaper than large machines. And if 1 machine in your workshop fails, you can continue working on the rest. Whereas when a large machine fails, your entire Workshop is down.

To organize a mini creamery you will not need a significant number of employees.

One person can easily operate three units.

Mini oil mills process various seeds into oil

Hazelnuts – 50% oil; Almonds – 50% oil; Walnut – 50% oil; Poppy – 50% oil; Sesame – 50%; Milk thistle – 15%; Regis – 20%; Mustard - 15-20%; Linen – 30-35%…

Spin methods

Before choosing oil extraction devices, you need to decide what type of oil product you are targeting. There are two ways to obtain this sought-after liquid.

  1. Hot pressed oil. Before squeezing, the mushy mass is heated to a temperature of 110 degrees Celsius. At the same time, the mint is moistened and mixed in roasting pans. After this, the screw mechanism compresses the raw materials. The hot-pressed product has the taste of roasted sunflower seeds. This oil is darker, has an attractive color and an amazing aroma.
  2. Cold pressed oil. Cold-pressed products are considered more useful, since some properties and useful components of the raw materials are not lost when heated. The essence of cold pressing is the absence of the stage of heating the raw materials. Cold-pressed liquid retains all the beneficial substances and vitamins. But the shelf life is lower. Over time, the oil darkens and acquires a bitter taste.

The main disadvantages of wooden oil presses

The disadvantage of a wooden press is its low productivity and low yield of finished products compared to a metal screw mechanism due to insufficient pressure on the raw materials during the pressing process. In an hour, using such equipment made of oak, you can get from 1 to 3 liters of live oil.

In addition, this form, when manipulated manually, makes it possible to obtain from raw materials no more than 20% of the total volume of a seed or nut. This shortcoming can be corrected by a hydraulic pump or electric motor, which can be connected to an oak mold to increase the performance of a home oiler.

When using one oak mold, it is difficult to obtain high-quality oil from different oilseeds, since the smell of one type can be transferred to another. To create a line of cold-pressed oil, you will need several oak molds for each type of raw material.

In order for the oak press to retain its qualities, it should be thoroughly cleaned after each use to avoid drying of the surface, rancidity and fungus on oil residues.

If you follow all the manufacturer's recommendations when working with an oak mold, you can obtain high-quality cold-pressed oil with a pleasant taste and preservation of all the beneficial properties of the finished product.

How to make an oil press with your own hands

To process oilseeds, special equipment is used - an oil press.

By using such a simple device, which some craftsmen make with their own hands, at home or in small-scale production, you can obtain an environmentally friendly product that is superior in taste and healthiness to oils sold in stores.

The technical characteristics and design of the equipment used depend on which plant crops and in what quantities the oil must be obtained.

To obtain oil for your needs, it is enough to acquire a device whose design is quite simple

What methods are used to extract oil from vegetable raw materials?

There are two main ways to obtain vegetable oil, which require the use of special equipment:

  • cold pressed;
  • hot spin.

When using cold-press technology, the raw materials are not subjected to preliminary preparation using thermal effects, due to which all the beneficial properties remain in them. Cold-pressed oil has a shorter shelf life than oil obtained using hot-pressed technology.

Oils obtained by different methods differ in appearance. Cold-pressed oils are more expensive because they are considered healthier and tastier than hot-pressed oils.

Cold and hot pressed oils differ in appearance.

How to care for the wooden parts of the press

In order for the oak press for producing cold-pressed oil to retain its positive properties over a long period of time, the equipment should be properly maintained after each use:

  1. Wash all wooden parts of the press after use with water and detergents, and then vacuum treat with linseed oil, which has bactericidal properties. In addition, beeswax can be used to treat the surface of an oak mold. After such treatments, the wooden surface will not be exposed to temperature changes, moisture and fungi.
  2. Parts of the oak press should be stored disassembled, wrapped in linen cloth soaked in linseed oil.
  3. During the cold season, wooden parts of the press should not be kept in cold rooms where the temperature drops below 0 degrees. If oak parts were stored in the cold, and then you decided to squeeze them, you should first let the wood thaw in natural conditions, holding it for several hours at room temperature so that it warms up evenly to a temperature of + 20 degrees.
