Front panel of the inverter Master 202
This device has the following functions:
- Anti-stick. It stops the flow of current in cases where the electrode sticks to the surface to be welded. At the moment, a short circuit is created, which negatively affects the further operation of the device, so the function helps maintain functionality for a long time. When the circuit opens, the current supply to the electrode is automatically turned on, and welding can continue.
- Hot start. This function increases the current level at those moments when the arc is ignited.
- Forced arc. Promotes an increase in current strength when the welding arc becomes smaller in size. This helps prevent sticking and continues to create a seamless seam. Thanks to this, the parameters remain more stable during operation.
- Automatic shutdown function when the temperature rises critically. It helps protect the device from overheating so that it does not break under high loads.
- The equipment can be connected to autonomous power sources, such as generators.

Instructions for use
Before you start using the FoxWeld Master 202 welding inverter, you should make sure that it is working. It must be free of mechanical damage, obvious contamination that could interfere with its operation, etc.
The equipment must be installed on a flat surface in a vertical position. The main thing is to ensure access to fresh air to the ventilation system.
Otherwise, there is a risk that the device will overheat greatly, or even burn out from overheating if the loads are constant and high.
Do not cover the device with cloth or allow it to come into contact with moisture. When replacing a standard cable, you need to pay attention to the cross-section of the new one. In a standard short cable, the cross-section is 1.6 cm2, and when replacing with a 5-meter analogue, a cross-section of 2.5 cm2 and higher should be selected. If it is lower, the voltage will be lost.
When preparing the device for use, you need to connect to it a ground cable, which is connected to the minus, and a power cable, which should be connected to the plus. During operation and during connection, situations should not be allowed in which the cables would come into contact with each other.
"Important!
Before turning on the device, you need to make sure that the parameters of the electrical network are within acceptable limits for its operation.”
When everything is prepared, you should turn on the toggle switch, which is located on the back of the device. After this, the corresponding indicator should light up. Next, you need to configure the welding machine to the parameters required for welding the parts. This model has the necessary set of settings, which allows you to choose the appropriate characteristics for anyone.
The welding process itself occurs in a standard way, with the exception of automatic functions that simplify the work of the master. After all work is completed, the shutdown process occurs in reverse order.
Rules for connecting and using the device
Before you start working with the Foxweld inverter model Master 202, you need to check it for serviceability and the absence of serious mechanical damage to the case. The equipment must be installed on a flat surface. At the same time, it is necessary to ensure that no objects limit access to the fresh air necessary to ensure effective ventilation. For the same reason, you should not cover the inverter with any material.
The standard power cable supplied with the Foxweld Master 202 inverter has a cross-section of 16 mm2. If you need to replace it with a wire more than 5 meters long, then the cross-section of such a wire must be at least 25 mm2. Neglecting this recommendation leads to significant voltage losses.
Welding cable extension for inverter
Most often, the Foxweld inverter is used to perform welding using MMA (manual arc) technology. For this device, electrodes for both direct and alternating current, with any type of coating, can be used.
To prepare Master 202 for welding using this technology, perform the following steps.
- Connect the power cable and ground cable to the corresponding connectors on the device body.
- Electrode manufacturers recommend connecting the power cable to the positive connector, and the ground cable to the negative connector. Make sure that the cables do not come into contact with each other.
- The ground cable, which should have the minimum possible length, must be securely connected to the parts to be welded, for which a special clamp is used.
- Make sure that the voltage in the supply electrical network is within the limits specified by the Master 202 manufacturer. It is also necessary to check that the circuit breakers are designed for the current that the welding machine will consume.
- After completing all the preparatory steps, you can connect the Master 202 to the electrical network and turn on the toggle switch on the rear panel. If everything is done correctly, the network indicator on the front panel will light up.
- After turning on the inverter, you need to select the type of welding (MMA), for which a special switch is used, and also set the required value of the welding current, focusing on the diameter of the electrode and the characteristics of the welded joint.
- After welding is completed, the device turns off in the reverse order.
Distinctive features of this inverter
This model has been on the market for quite a long time, so it is no longer a novelty for professional welders. In the manufacture of this equipment, only the highest quality components are used, and it is assembled by professional designers. It has no cracks or backlashes, so purely externally this device will look very aesthetically pleasing and attractive.
The design includes a special cooling system, which allows operation at maximum current for the longest period of time. The frame is made of high-quality metal, connected with bolts, and all power transistors are secured with special screws. If the equipment does overheat, it has an automatic shutdown system that will simultaneously light the indicator light located on the front panel.
Before starting work, you should check the integrity of the body, which should not have even the slightest damage. Install this structure so that it is located separately from other equipment and away from various kinds of obstacles that could block the ventilation openings.
When welding is carried out, it is strictly forbidden to cover this apparatus with dense materials that would impede the passage of fresh air into the ventilation system. It cannot be connected to the electrical network if the cross-section of the supply electrical wire is less than 2.5 square millimeters. The length of welding cables must be at least 5 meters.
It is worth noting that this welding machine can also be used for semi-automatic welding, you just have to connect a feeder, which will melt the electrode in the area where the arc is located. It is also permissible to use a non-consumable electrode made of tungsten. This allows you to weld together workpieces made of non-ferrous materials such as aluminum, duralumin or copper.

Features of TIG welding
Foxweld Master 202 can also be used for direct current argon arc welding using non-consumable electrodes. In this case, it is allowed to weld copper products and steel structures by igniting the arc using the contact method. Preparing the device for operation with the TIG process is as follows:
- the grounding clamp is attached to the welding part under the previously described conditions, then it is connected to the positive terminal of the inverter;
- The burner cable is connected to the negative contact, and its hose is connected to the argon cylinder through a reducer located on the gas tank.
After this, you need to open the cylinder (unscrew the valve) and adjust the operating pressure at the outlet of the reducer. Stopping the gas supply to the welded area is carried out using the tap on the torch.
TIG welding is performed with tungsten electrodes, which allow you to perform work using direct current. In this case, the tip of the welding rods must be sharpened at 90–120 degrees at a current of 120 to 250 amperes, at 60–90 degrees (from 30 to 120 amperes), at 30 degrees (current no more than 30 amperes). It is also important to choose the right tungsten rod. Its diameter should be: at a current from 100 to 200 A - 2 mm; at current from 60 to 150 A – 1.6 mm; current up to 80 A – 1 mm.
The arc in the TIG process is ignited by contact - the welding rod is touched to the part prepared for processing, and then removed from the surface. The work process should be completed by increasing the distance between the workpiece and the torch (“breaking” the arc). In this case, the gas supply is not stopped immediately, but 5–6 seconds after the end of welding.
Please pay special attention to the fact that the described inverter is configured for MMA welding. Be prepared for the fact that using Master 202 using TIG technology will always be accompanied by excessive heating of the tungsten welding rod.
Recommendations for using an inverter for gas shielded welding
The manufacturer of the Foxweld inverter model Master 202 has provided the possibility of using it for welding performed in a shielding gas environment (TIG). This welding is performed using direct current, and a non-consumable electrode is used to create the welding arc. The circuit of this device does not contain an oscillator, so the welding arc is ignited by touch. You cannot connect an external oscillator to a device of this model, as this may lead to failure of the inverter.
It must be borne in mind that the Foxweld Master 202 inverter is designed for welding performed using MMA technology, so you should be prepared for the fact that the non-consumable electrode will become very hot (this is due to the increased arc voltage).
TIG welding parameters
Preparing the device for welding using TIG technology and its implementation is carried out in the following sequence.
- The cable through which electric current is supplied to the welding torch is connected to the negative connector, and the ground cable to the positive connector.
- The workpiece cable is securely connected to the parts to be welded using a special clamp.
- To supply shielding gas to the welding zone, a special hose is used, which connects the welding torch and the reducer on the gas cylinder. After securely fixing both ends of the hose, open the valve on the gas cylinder and adjust the gas pressure using the reducer. To supply gas directly to the welding zone, a valve located on the welding torch is used.
- It is necessary to fix a non-consumable electrode in the clamp of the welding torch (thoriated tungsten rods are usually used), the diameter of which is selected depending on the value of the welding current: up to 80 A - 1 mm; up to 150 A – 1.6 mm; up to 200 A – 2 mm. The magnitude of the welding current also determines the sharpening angle of the electrode tip: up to 30 A - 300; up to 120 A – 60–900; up to 200 A – 90–1200.
- It is necessary to check that the voltage in the electrical network is within the range specified by the manufacturer of the Master 202. It is also necessary to check the parameters of the machine installed in the electrical panel: it must withstand the current that the welding machine will consume.
- The inverter should be connected to the electrical network using a power cable. The device itself is turned on using a toggle switch located on the rear panel. At the same time, the network indicator on the front panel should light up. — After turning on the inverter, it is necessary to set the required welding current and turn on the gas supply using the valve on the torch.
- The welding arc is ignited by touching the electrode to the surface of the parts being connected and then withdrawing it.
- After the weld is formed, the arc is extinguished by moving the electrode away from the surface of the parts. After extinguishing the arc, you should not immediately turn off the supply of shielding gas; you must wait a few seconds.
- When the welding work is completed, the inverter turns off and the gas supply is shut off using the valve on the cylinder.

Briefly about possible problems with the inverter and how to eliminate them
In cases where the inverter is turned on, the cooling device is functioning normally, and the green signal of the device being ready for operation does not light up, you must immediately contact the repair service. If you experience electric shocks while using the unit, you need to carefully check the quality of the contacts of the plug connector and ground wire, socket and cable.
Other types of inverter failures Master:
- Disabling the safety circuit breaker when performing welding work. The problem is usually solved by replacing the automatic plugs on the electrical panel with products with a rating of 25 or 32 amperes.
- When operating the device, a burning smell is noticeable and smoke comes out of the inverter. You cannot try to correct this situation on your own. It is mandatory to contact repair specialists.
- The arc does not ignite, but the fan is running and the green signal is on. The correct position of the current regulator for welding is checked; perhaps its value is not set (position OA).
- About the rod. Sometimes the problem is solved by choosing a higher current value, heating the electrode, holding it at an angle of about 45 degrees to the workpiece, and not in a vertical position.
- The yellow indicator on the panel lights up. As already mentioned, this indicates that the device’s thermal protection is turned on. No action needs to be taken. As soon as the network indicators return to normal, the indicator will go out and you can start working.
Master Problems 202
If you notice any changes in the operation of the device, for example, the light does not light up, you should stop working immediately.
- if the circuit breaker fuse is turned off, the automatic plugs on the electrical panel should be replaced with a value of 25-35 amperes;
- if the foxweld master 202 inverter begins to emit a burning smell, it should be turned off immediately and taken for repair;
- if your electrode often sticks, you should increase the current;
- If the arc does not light up, but the fan and green signal are working, you should check the welding current regulator (position OA).
You should beware of various fakes foxweld master 202
since this can lead to bad consequences. Always use original equipment, not counterfeits. This will save you money and health
Common problems and their solutions
Here are examples of simple problems; in more complex cases, it is better to immediately send the device to a repair service. For example, if the ready-to-work light stops lighting or mild electric shocks occur. If there is a burning smell from the inverter and, moreover, smoke appears from the device, the best solution would be to contact a specialist.
- Often, when a circuit breaker is turned off, it is enough to simply change the plugs.
- The arc does not light up, but the cooling fan is running and the welder's readiness indicator shows that everything is in order with the device. Most likely, the current is not set, look at the current adjustment, it is probably in the 0 A position.
- The electrode began to “stick”; in most cases, the situation will be corrected either by increasing the current or by changing the welding angle from strictly vertical to an angle of 45 degrees to the part.
- The yellow indicator lights up, indicating that the device is overheating - just stop working and wait until the device cools down and the yellow signal goes off. This will mean that the device is ready for use again.
Possible malfunctions of the device and ways to eliminate them
A situation may arise when the power indicator does not light up when the device is turned on and the fan is running. This may indicate a failure of the circuit elements, which requires contacting a service center. Situations where electric shocks are felt while working on the inverter can be resolved by checking the contacts of the power plug, the quality of the connection of the grounding and power cables. Other common malfunctions in the operation of the Foxweld inverter of the model in question include the following.
- The network machine is turned off. In this case, you should replace it with a more powerful one (25 or 32 A).
- The smell of burning coming from the device and its smoke require contacting a service center.
- If the welding arc does not ignite when the power indicator is on and the fan is running, you should check the position of the current regulator. It may be at position "0".
- When the yellow indicator on the device panel lights up, this means that automatic surge protection is turned on. You should wait until the network parameters return to normal.
If you purchased an original Foxweld inverter model Master 202, and not a fake, you will certainly be satisfied with its technical capabilities, reliability, ease of operation and maintenance.
How to properly connect an inverter
Before you start using the device, you must check all included components for integrity. Using an external inspection, check the integrity of the power cables and the grounding cable. Make sure that the cables are securely connected to the device. Inspect the fan; there should be no blockages or unnecessary objects in it. If work takes place indoors, it is necessary to ensure a constant flow of fresh air.
After switching on, under no circumstances should you cover the device with any materials, especially those with a dense structure. There may be cases when, for some reason, the power wires fail, wear out, or disappear altogether. To make new ones, you will definitely need to select the cross-section of the conductive parts of the wire. If the length of the wires is less than 5 meters, the cross-section must be at least 16 squares. If you want to increase the length of the power wires, choose a cross-section of 25 squares.
Do not reverse the polarity of the rods before connecting (the polarity is indicated in the instructions for them). The grounding clamp is marked “minus”, and the electrical holder clamp is marked “plus”. The grounding clamp should be located as close as possible to the work site.
Be sure to check the network voltage, whether it is coming to the inverter and what value it is. There is an indication on the welder panel, and the power indicator indicates the device is ready for operation.
After all the necessary checks, we switch the switch to arc welding mode (MMA toggle switch). Afterwards, you need to select the amount of current necessary and sufficient to carry out welding work under the given conditions and requirements.
Upon completion of welding work, be sure to turn off the device and remove the working rod from the clamps.
The master 202 welding machine is capable of operating in DC argon arc welding mode or so-called TIG welding. This requires special tungsten electrodes and a number of actions:
- Attach the grounding wire to the part to be worked on.
- Attach the cable from the burner to the negative contact.
- Connect the hose to an argon cylinder through a reducer to regulate the gas supply pressure.
For different currents of work, it is necessary to select a certain diameter of tungsten rods.
Moreover, the greater the current, the larger the cross-section of the rod should be. At currents from 10 to 200 A, the diameter of the rod should be 2 mm, 60-150 A - 1.6 mm, and up to 80 A - 1 mm. The ignition of the arc occurs after the rod comes into contact with the part and is gradually withdrawn from the part. Next comes the actual welding. The work is stopped by increasing the distance between the torch and the workpiece, while the gas supply is turned off 5-6 seconds after welding is completed.
